How to Protect Your Home and Family from a Dangerous Home Invasion
An intruder will enter a home every 15 seconds here in the United States. There are a number of things that you can do to protect your home and family. For starters, you can trim your hedges, add exterior lighting and even install a CCTV home monitoring system. However, do you know what signs to look for to determine if you are at risk of home invasion?
How Do Burglars Work?
In most cases, thieves will work very quickly since they have a limited amount of time from the moment you leave your home to the time you return. For that reason, burglars will pre-determine what house they are going to hit. Burglars tend to do three things when they are scoping out their next target.
- Park in your neighborhood in an unmarked vehicle or a vehicle that appears to be part of a local business to scope out the “prize”.
- Pretend to be a worker, such as a door-to-door salesperson or a local plumber/electrician, in the neighborhood to determine your daily schedule.
- Make phone calls to your home and pose as a business to schedule a fake appointment or to determine that you aren’t home.
As a homeowner, it is your job to keep an eye out in your neighborhood for strange vehicles and unknown individuals. You also need to be careful who you give information out to on the phone.
To help protect your belongings, you should make sure that you have insurance so that your belongings can be replaced in the event that n intruder enters into your home and steals something. However, you also should consider installing a CCTV system that will help you monitor your property whether you are at home or away from home.
